2D: Two Dimensional
2D is an abbreviation of "Two-Dimensional".
It is the dimension of any virtual object that has no manifestation of profundity. For example, if a graphic or picture representation of a computer is in 2-D, then it can only be sighted directly on, however, the 3-D version of a graphic or picture representation of a computer could be sighted from any angle.
- 2-D computer graphics is time and again used in applications that were first expanded around conventional printing and drawing technologies.
- Applications and Technologies, whose examples are typography, cartography, technical drawing, and advertising, used 2-D computer graphics in the beginning. In those applications, the two-dimensional picture representation is not only a demonstration of a real-world entity but also a self-sufficient work of art with additional semantic value.
- Two-dimensional representations are time and again chosen for the reason that they provide highly straight control of the picture representation than 3-D computer graphics, whose method of representation is high of the same kind to photography in comparison to the typography.
- In the company of desktop publishing, engineering, and business, a 2-D computer graphic can be to a great extent less significant in comparison to the subsequent digital image representation, repeatedly by a factor of 1/1000 or more. This representation is also highly pliable because it can be turned into a variety of resolutions for different output devices. Due to these reasons, documents and illustrations are time and again repeatedly stored or transmitted as 2-D graphic files.
- In the 1950s, 2-D computer graphics began based on vector graphics devices. These vector graphics devices were fundamentally succeeded by raster-based devices in the subsequent decades. The PostScript language and the X Window System protocol were milestone expansion and growth in the field.
