FCI: Food Corporation of India
FCI is an abbreviation of the Food Corporation of India. It is a governmental organization in India that also operates by the state government and deals with the purchase, sale, and distribution of food grains across the country. Its objective is to make sure food security for citizens of the country. It works through 5 zonal offices in the country.
All five Zonal Offices of FCI locations are,
- Zonal Office, North: Noida
- Zonal Office, East: Kolkata
- Zonal Office, West: Mumbai
- Zonal Office, North-East: Guwahati
- Zonal Office, South: Chennai
On 14 January 1965, it was established under the Food Corporation's Act 1964 with its primary headquarters at Chennai. Right now, it’s headquarter is situated in Delhi. The current Chairman and Managing Director of FCI are D.V Prasad.
FCI Mission
- To make sure sufficient food grains production by the farmers, procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP).
- To make sure the availability of food grains and sugar through suitable policies and buffer supply and collection.
- To make food grains easier to access at reasonable prices through Public Distribution Shop (PDS) particularly for the cost-effectively weaker sections of the society.

FCI Objectives
Food Corporation of India was established to accomplish the objectives of the Food Policy. Following mentioned below are the objectives of the Food Policy,
- To support rates and prices through operations to preserve and protect the interests of farmers.
- To distribute the food grains uniformly throughout the country through the efficient public distribution system.
- To make sure National Food Security by maintaining the essential required level of supply and collection of food grains.
In Asia, FCI is supposed to be the leading supply chain management. Wheat and Rice are the main products of this organization. It acquired around 15-20 percent of total wheat production of India every year and around 12-15 percent of total rice production of India every year. After acquiring the food grains, it makes available the food grains to the supply and collection storage areas of different states so that at a minimum price ration cardholders can purchase wheat and rice.
The Union government is expected to pay back the losses if FCI undergoes any loss. Since its commencement, FCI effectively managed and handled a variety of state of affairs of insufficiency and a large number of food grains.
In the case of food security, FCI has played a very significant role in transforming India from a food dearth country to a self-sufficient country.
