CDSL: Consumer Digital Subscriber Line

CDSL is an abbreviation of the "Consumer Digital Subscriber Line". Consumer DSL is one of the categories of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology, which works as a broadband transmission technology by transmitting digital data all through the telephone lines to make available internet services. It was established and trademarked by Rockwell Corporation. In contrast to Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL is a general category in all the DSL modified versions), it is a slower technology. It makes available data with the data speed rates of about 1 Mbps downstream (about 128 Kbps upstream) to the customer. The technology used in Consumer DSL is its carrier technology and also has the advantage that a splitter does not need to be installed at the user's end in comparison to the DMT or CAP ADSL technology.

Objectives of CDSL Services

The most essential objectives of the CDSL services are given below in the following:

  • The CDSL service should operate on the existing telephone lines.
  • The CDSL service should not have an effect on customers existing telephones and fax machines.
  • The CDSL service required to be faster than the 56 Kbps.
  • The CDSL service in conclusion should constantly all the time stays ON.

Bit Rate

The range of bit rate of Consumer DSL services in general starts from 256 kbit/s to over 100 Mbit/s inclined towards the way to the customer (downstream), which all depends on:

  • Technology of DSL
  • Broadband telephone wiring line conditions
  • Standard of service execution and installation
