NCC: National Cadet Corps

NCC is an abbreviation of the National Cadet Corps. It is the youth wing of Military cadet corps of India that gives fundamental military training to the students of schools and colleges. It is a tri-service organization that includes the Army, Navy and Air Force. Its objective is to prepare students into disciplined and patriotic citizens. Its head office is situated in Delhi and its directorates are to be found in different states of India.

On 31st January 2019, Lt Gen Rajeev Chopra appointed as the Director-General of National Cadet Corps (NCC). The official song of NCC is titled "Ham Sabh Bhartiya Hain". It is written by Sudarshan Faakir. The Motto of NCC is "Unity and Discipline".

NCC Flag

  • In 1954, the existing NCC flag was introduced.
  • It has three colors: Red, Dark Blue, and Light Blue.
  • These colors represent the three services of the Corps, i.e. red represents the Army, deep blue represents the Navy and the light blue represents the Air Force.
  • In the center, it has three letters "NCC" encircled by a garland of lotus.

NCC Brief History

  • In 1666, it was first begun in Germany.
  • In the early 1940s, Pandit Hradaya Nath Kunjru recommended the establishment of a cadet organization in schools and colleges at the National Level in India.
  • On 15 July 1948, it came into existence in India after the National Cadet Corps Act was approved and passed by the then Governor-General.
  • In 1948, the Girl Section of NCC was established to offer equal opportunities to school and college going girls.
  • In 1950, the Air Wing was added to NCC.
  • In 1952, the Naval Wing was added to NCC.
  • In 1963, after the 1962 Sino-Indian war, the NCC training was made mandatory.
  • In 1968, it for a second time turned out to be voluntary.
  • During the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war and 1971 Bangladesh-Pakistan war, NCC cadets served as the second line of defence.
