CAPTCHA: Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart
CAPTCHA is an abbreviation of the "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart".
In the field of computing, it is a form of challenge-response test which is created in a way to verify whether the user on the online platform is human or robot. Many times generally a user comes across CAPTCHA and reCAPTCHA tests on the Internet, which is basically to monitor and manage bots activities but this method or process has its disadvantages.
Working of CAPCHA
- The main idea behind the creation of CAPTCHAs was to obstruct spam bot using the software so that they cannot post comments on websites pages or buy items in a large quantity on one single occasion.
- The standard CAPTCHAs, which at present are still in use on a number of websites, entails the process of selecting images by the users to recognize letters in that image. It is also familiar to select from a diversity of images where a user requires opting for a common subject matter.
- The letters in the images are distorted in a manner so that the bots which are used by the software are not expected to be competent enough to recognize them.
The process of passing the CAPTCHA test leads the users first to read and deduce the distorted text, then type the accurate letters into a given column box just below or by the side of the CAPTCHA, and click on the submit option.
- If the letters selected by the user and given in the CAPTCHA don't match, then users are encouraged to attempt the test again.
- These types of tests are mostly found in areas on the internet such as in login forms, account signup forms, online polls, and e-commerce checkout pages.
The plan behind this letter deduction process in the image of the distorted letter is that a bot program used in computers software will not be competent enough to read and deduce the distorted letters, at the same time as a human being, who is used to in perceiving by reading and deducing letters in every type of frameworks such as in unlike fonts, different handwritings, etc., will generally be competent and proficient enough to recognize these distorted letters.
