What is the full form of RTO?

The following are the full forms of RTO:

RTO: Regional Transport Office
RTO is an abbreviation of the Regional Transport Office. It is an Indian Government departmental organization that is responsible for upholding a database of drivers and registration of vehicles for a variety of states of India. It is to be found in every state of India which issues driving licenses and vehicle registration cards. Nearly about every state of India has the Regional Transport Offices in the majority of the districts.
- RTO offices make available digitized cards in some states, like in Madhya Pradesh.
- In Madhya Pradesh, Driver's Licenses and vehicle registration are offered in the form of a card with the size of a PAN card.
- In some states like Tamil Nadu offer the facility of e-services for citizens for information like contact details, the status of the request and tax rates of vehicles.

RTO Corruption complaints
- RTO is reported as the highly corrupt department of India for bribing every day.
- In 2000, a survey carried out by the Public Affairs Center to study the public administration of Bangalore. According to the survey report, 57% of people alleged to pay inducement averaging up to 637 per case.
- In 2014, an application proposal of partial closing of RTOs had been passed by Union Minister of Road Transport, Nitin Gadkari, to enhance online functions to control corruption.
RTO Regional Transport Officer
The Regional Transport Officer is the person in command or head of the Regional Transport Office of a particular region or district.
RTO Database
- The identification of untaxed vehicles is done by RTO and it also identifies custodians of cars entering into a variety of Indian states, or those who go beyond speed limits on a road that has speed cameras by matching the cars to their custodians making use of the RTO database.
- The High-Security Registration plates (HSRP) was brought in to facilitate in the reduction of vehicle crime and advance security. It is planned to dissuade criminals from impersonating stolen cars with the identity of written off or scrapped vehicles.
- There are a variety of portals where a person can make sure and verify their license status.
RTO Vehicle registration certificate
The application for a vehicle registration certificate can be applied by the owner of a vehicle and if it is stolen, misplaced, destructed or completely written off, then the owner will get the duplicate copy of the vehicle registration certificate from the concerned RTO office.
