Disk Operating System
Disk Operating System is abbreviated as DOS. A disk operating system is an operating system of a system of computer that inhibits as a feature and is capable of making use of a disk storage device, which comprises a floppy disk, hard disk drive, or optical disc.
History
- At the beginning of the 1960s, a variety of mainframe and minicomputer dealers started bringing in disk operating systems and with the purpose to take advantage of disks, started advancing on-hand operating systems because disk drives turned out to be better and reasonably priced.
- At the ending of the 1970s and 1980s, CBM DOS, which was designed for Commodore 8-bit systems, Atari DOS in support of the Atari 8-bit family, TRS-DOS in case of the TRS-80, Apple DOS in case of the Apple II, and MS-DOS in case of IBM PC, used a disk operating system, which majority of the times frequently just introduced as "DOS".
