CRC: Cyclic Redundancy Check
CRC is an abbreviation of the "Cyclic Redundancy Check". It is a method in the form of a detection code of errors, which is generally used in digital telecommunications networks and storage devices with the purpose to detect changes that occur inadvertently through errors to primary transmitted data.
CRC is abbreviated as Cyclic Redundancy Check for the reason that in "CRC", "C" stands for Check, which is used for data detection and authentication, "R" stands for Redundancy, which is used because of the inclusion of additional information's based on errors which are not severely required in the transmission of primary data, and the last "C" stands for cyclic, which is used because of the basis of systematic cyclic codes in the algorithm.
CRC History
- In 1961, the invention of CRC was done by Wesley Peterson.
- In 1975, the 32-bit CRC function was published by the consistent determination and effective efforts of a variety of researchers, which was used in Ethernet and in a lot of numerous other standards.
Application of CRC
- In the process of error detection, CRC is applied through a piece of equipment by measuring a short, fixed-length binary sequence in case of each and every structure of data, which to be sent or piled up and putting together by adding it with the data, shaping a codeword.
- The piece of equipment on which CRC is applied, now either evaluate by measuring the check value of codeword received by it with one recently considered from the structure of data or on the complete codeword, carries out a CRC in a corresponding manner and evaluate it by measuring the developing check value together with an anticipated excess invariable.
- In a condition, when the situation arises that the values of CRC are not corresponding in the pattern or complementary, then it represents the effect that the structure of data consists of an error.
