Br: Break Key

Br is an abbreviation of "Break Key".

The key is available with the set of other keys on the laptop or separate keyboard, which is also called a Pause key because it generally comes in the collective format with Break on the same key. The function of this Break/Pause key is not clearly described in the modern use, but it can be used to shift from one session to another among various login sessions, to pause several games, to put an end to a program, or to break off a modem connection by the software's on laptops and computers.

Location of Break Key on the keyboard

The Break key is to be found on the right side of the top row of keys on the majority of the laptop's keyboards.
It is used as a substitute function of the Pause key, on a variety of some specific U.S. keyboard. In those cases to activate Break, a user may need to press Ctrl + Pause.

History

In 1985, as the IBM Model M 101-key keyboard launched, from that time till now, the break function generally comes in the collective format with the pause function on the same key.

Keyboards without Break/Pause key

There is a variety of keyboard of laptops, which does not have Break/Pause key.

Some of the alternatives for these laptops keyboard users are given in the following:

Ctrl + Fn + B or Fn + B on some specific Dell laptops.
Ctrl + Fn+ F11 or Fn + B or Fn + Alt + P on some specific Lenovo laptops.
Ctrl + Fn + Shift or Fn + R or Fn + Shift on some specific HP laptops.

In the case of Apple keyboards, they do not make available the Pause/Break key because their Mac OS X does not apply it in any usage.
