BAMS: Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery

BAMS is an abbreviation for "Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery". It is a specialized undergraduate degree awarded in the field of medicine to those who have finished the complete program of five and half years of medicine course comprising one-year internship. It focuses completely on Ayurveda provided in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and other South Asian countries.

Minimum Criteria for BAMS

The minimum criteria to acquire admission to BAMS undergraduate degree course are:

  • A student should complete 12th-class education with science.
  • Subsequent to completing the 12th class, the student is mandatory to clear a state or national-level BAMS entrance exam to acquire admission to the relevant medical college.

BAMS Course Curriculum

The BAMS course curriculum comprises:

  • Comprehensive study of Ayurveda subjects along with the study of modern anatomy
  • Principle of modern medicines
  • Principle of surgery
  • ENT
  • Pharmcology etc.

Ayurveda is an ancient medical system of India. It not only speaks about the treatment but also makes available solutions to put a stop to the reappearance of diseases.

According to Ayurveda, the illness or diseases take place due to three categories of dysfunctions in the human body:

  • Kapha
  • Pitta
  • Vata
