CISSP: Certified Information Systems Security Professional

CISSP is an abbreviation of "Certified Information Systems Security Professional". It is a self-governing information security certification accredited under the ANSI ISO/IEC Standard 17024:2003, authorized by the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, which is also acknowledged as (ISC)². It is also officially licensed by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). As of July 1st, 2020, the total number of count of CISSP members is 141, 607.

CISSP History

  • In November 1988, the Special Interest Group for Computer Security (SIG-CS) carried out collectively quite a lot of organizations, which are concerned with the raised necessity for a standardized, vendor-neutral certification program.
  • In the middle of 1989, The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium or "(ISC)²" established as a non-profit organization.
  • By 1994, the official identification and qualification documents of CISSP were introduced.
  • In 2003, the CISSP was taken up as a baseline for the U.S. National Security Agency's ISSEP program.
  • In June 2004, the CISSP title was accredited under the ANSI ISO/IEC Standard 17024:2003.
  • In May 2020, The UK National Recognition Information Centre appraised the CISSP official certification in the same standard as a Level 7 award, by validating the standard of certification equivalent to Masters Degree.

Common Body of Knowledge (CBK)

The International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC)² designates the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK), which is the fundamental basis of the CISSP examination.

The CISSP CBK is a compilation of subject matters, which are pertinent to information security professionals all over the world. The CISSP CBK set up a general substructure of information security policies, conditions, standards, and principles.
