DIMM: Dual In-line Memory Module

DIMM is an abbreviation of "Dual In-line Memory Module". It is generally known as RAM stick, which consists of an order of the set of dynamic random-access memory integrated circuits. This set of electronic circuits are placed on a printed circuit board, consist of one or more than one random access memory chip and are considered in case of application in computer systems, printers, workstations, and servers.

Types of DIMMs

Some of the types of DIMMS are:

  • Fully-buffered DIMMs (FB-DIMMs): It makes use of advanced memory buffer (AMB) chips to enhance the quality of being consistent, uphold signal reliability and develop techniques or processes to turn out to be aware of errors to diminish soft errors.
  • Registered DIMMs (RDIMMs): RDIMMs put on display onboard memory registers that are to be found between the memory and the memory controller.
  • SO-DIMM: SO-DIMM is largely used in case of portable computing devices such as laptops and tablets.
  • Un-buffered DIMMs (UDIMMs): The commands of UDIMMs set off straightforwardly from the memory controller, which is a feature in the CPU, to the memory module. In comparison to registered memory, they are not as established and secure.
  • Load-reduced DIMMs (LR-DIMMs): It makes use of technology based on isolation memory buffer (iMB) to facilitate the buffering of the data and address lanes and to diminish the load on the memory controller.
