The following are the full forms of PSI:
- Pound per Square Inch
- Population Services International
PSI: Pound per Square Inch
PSI is an abbreviation of Pound per Square Inch. Pound per Square Inch or more precisely Pound-force per Square Inch is the unit of pressure. One PSI is equal to the pressure which is produced when one pound-force is applied to an area of one square inch. Therefore, PSI is the measure of force that is applied to one square inch area.
In SI units, 1 psi is approximately equal to 6895 N/m2.
1 PSI= 1 lb (pound)/ 1inch2
- The kilopound per square inch (KSI) is a scaled unit resulting from psi, which is correspondent to a thousand psi (1000 lbf/in2).
- KSI are not generally used for gas pressures. They are typically used in materials science, where the tensile strength of a material is measured as a huge number of psi.
- The conversion in SI units is 1 ksi = 6.895 MPa, or 1 MPa = 0.145 ksi.
- The mega pounds per square inch (Mpsi) is one more multiple equal to a million psi. It is used in mechanics for the elastic modulus of materials, specifically for metals.
- The conversion in SI units is 1 Mpsi = 6.895 GPa, or 1 GPa = 0.145 Mpsi.
