PNG: Portable Network Graphics
PNG is an abbreviation of Portable Network Graphics. It is a way in which Portable Network Graphics is arranged for keeping in reserve the bit-mapped (raster) images on the computer. It is also called as a descendant of GIF format images. To save images as a GIF file, it uses less compression method but unaccompanied by copyright problems. It comprises a bitmap of indexed color so it is also known as a bit-mapped image.

PNG History
In early 1995, Portable Network Graphics Format was designed and created. In GIF only the major purpose on the further side of its creation was the limitation of 256 colors. PNG has a file extension ".png".
PNG Advantages
- Lossless Compression:
It is a lossless compression which means that digital images which compressed under this level of quality continue to have their data, details, and quality despite recurrent encoding and decoding.
- Wide Color Depth:
The configuration is appropriate for different kinds of digital images such as photographs and graphics. It keeps up palette-based images with palettes of 24-bit RGB or 32-bit RGBA colors, also gray scale images, and full-color non-palette-based RGB/RGBA images.
- Transparency Support:
An additional essential feature of the PNG configuration is that it keeps up compression of digital images with transparent regions.
- Editing Images suitability:
Since the configuration is a lossless compression, for editing it is suitable for keeping in reserve digital images. PNG makes available for use low-resolution images that consider having the required qualities and load rapidly.
- Sharp Edges and Solid Colors:
The JPEG is not suitable for digital images with huge solid colors and sharp edges in the middle of objects because it manufactures visual artifacts. In case of PNG this is not follows. Therefore, the format of PNG is suitable for images containing text, line art, and graphics.
PNG Disadvantages
- Large File Size:
A fundamental disadvantage of PNG is that it compresses digital images at massive file sizes.
- Suitability for Printing:
This format was developed exclusively for distributing digital images online. Therefore, another drawback of PNG is that it is not suitable for professional-quality print graphics because it does not keep up with non-RGB color spaces such as CMYK.
- Other drawbacks:
The PNG format does not keep up with embedding EXIF metadata used by almost all digital cameras. Furthermore, not in similarity with the GIF format, it does not innately keep up animation even though there are unofficial extensions that are accessible.
