What is the full form of IRCTC?

IRCTC is an abbreviation of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation. It is a subsidiary of the Indian Railway established by the Ministry of Railways to organize and manage the catering, tourism and online ticketing operation of the Indian Railways. It makes possible and easy for users to book hotels and railways tickets online from their online portal www.irctc.co.in. The current (as of October 2017) Chairman and Managing Director of IRCTC is Shri Mahendra Pratap Mall, who is an Indian Railway Accounts Service officer of 1984 batch.
IRCTC Mission
To enhance and advance customer services and facilitation in railway catering, hospitality, travel, and tourism through the best industry methods and techniques.

IRCTC head office is situated in New Delhi, India.

- It provides service for online payment for the ticket through Net Banking, Credit or Debit card.
- It issues traveling card for frequent travelers.
- Special train booking facility available.
- Tatkal ticket booking facility available.
- It also introduced a flight booking facility.
- Provide status checking service of ticket and availability of seats.
IRCTC Milestones
- On 2 September 2013, almost 5, 82,000 tickets booked in a day.
- On 19 March 2014, almost 5, 80,000 tickets booked in a day.
- On 1 April 2015, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) created a new national record with 13, 45,496 tickets booked in a day.
- On 2 April 2015, almost 11, 00,000 tickets booked in a day.
- In April 2015, almost 13, 40,000 tickets booked in a day.
- On 24 May 2017, the inaugural ceremony of Tejas Express was from Mumbai CST to Karmali, Goa.
- Addition of plan of Alternate Train Accommodation System aka VIKALP for the advantage of Waitlisted Passengers with effect from 1 April 2017 in all Mail/Express trains.
- From 3 November. 2017, Service began to give information to passengers through (SMS) regarding the status of delayed trains. In the beginning, all Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Tejas & Gatiman Trains covered.
- From 15 December 2017, all Jan Shatabdi, Duranto and Garib Rath trains have also been comprised. Now, this service is available in around 250 trains.
