1) IPS: In-Plane Switching
IPS is an abbreviation of In-Plane switching. It is used in LCDs. It is a kind of screen technology which makes available for use invariable color reproduction and larger viewing angle than conventional LCDs. In 1996, it was designed and created by Hitachi to succeed in dealing with the limitations of the twisted nematic (TN) display like powerful viewing angle dependence and low standard color reproduction.
Advantages of In-Plane Switching (IPS)
- It displays uniform, precise colors from all viewing angles.
- IPS operates through the process without any data loss high-speed signals.
- It makes available for use firmly fixed response time with understandable images.
- The most significant advantage of IPS is that when it touched, it doesn't lessen or display the residue. So, it is great for touch screen devices like smartphones and tablets.
Disadvantages of In-Plane Switching (IPS)
- It uses a large amount of power nearly 15% more than conventional LCD screens.
- IPS displays are costs higher than conventional LCDs.
- IPS display has extended response time than usual LCDs.
2) IPS: Intrusion Prevention System
IPS is also an abbreviation of the Intrusion Prevention System which is used for the security of a network or prevention appliances of the threat to keep track of network and system activities for malevolent activity. It is also known as Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPs). After an attacker gains access to the computer, IPS can take instant action. The packet it discovers to be malicious can be dropped and all additional traffic can be blocked from that port or IP address.
Categorization of Intrusion Prevention System (IPS)
Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) is categorized into four types,
- Network-based intrusion prevention system (NIPS): By examining protocol activity, it monitors the complete network for distrustful traffic.
- Wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS): By examining wireless networking protocols, It monitors a wireless network for distrustful traffic.
- Network behavior analysis (NBA): it analyzes network traffic to spot threats that create uncommon traffic flows.
- Host-based intrusion prevention system (HIPS): It is a built-in software package that works a single host for distrustful activity by examining events that happen inside that host.
Advantages of Intrusion Prevention System (IPS)
- The IPS ensures less disruption for university systems and a reduced number of security incidents.
- The IPS only records network activity when it takes action, maintaining the privacy of network users.
- The IPS compares network traffic against a list of known malicious traffic and does not store or view content.
- The IPS subscribes to a reputation-based list of known malicious sites and domains, which it uses to proactively protect the university.
