DST: Department of Science & Technology
DST is an abbreviation of the Department of Science & Technology. It is a department that operates under the Ministry of Science and Technology in India. On 3 May 1971, it was founded to encourage and support innovative sections of Science and Technology and to play the role of a nodal department for arranging, managing, encouraging and supporting Science & Technology activities in the country. The head of the department is Minister of State Dr. Harsh Vardhan, at the same time its present secretary is Ashutosh Sharma.

Responsibilities Performed by DST
Following mentioned below are a variety of responsibilities performed by DST which are allied to particular projects and programs,
- It prepared methodically the policies allied to Science and Technology.
- It controls and manages matters which are allied to the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Cabinet (SACC).
- It encourages and supports the innovative sections of Science and Technology with unique significance on rising sections like biofuel production, processing, and applications and utilization of consequences to create value-added chemicals.
- It organizes and manages the sections of Science and Technology having cross-sectoral connections.
- It takes on or economically supports scientific and technological surveys, research and development.
- It organizes, manages and administers Management Information System for Science and Technology.
- It encourages and supports Science and Technology at the State, District and Village level through State Science and Technology Councils and allied methods.
- It builds up applications of Science and Technology for women and frail or underprivileged segments of the society.
