IIT: Indian Institute of Technology
IIT is an abbreviation of the Indian Institute of Technology. It is the self-governing esteemed engineering institute in India. It is an independent public engineering institute that offers higher education in the regulation and direction of a branch of knowledge in engineering. The IITs are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 and there are around 23 IITs in India. IIT runs a variety of Graduate and Post-Graduate programs in the field of computer science, electrical and electronics engineering, Mechanical engineering, civil engineering, architecture, and planning, etc.

IIT conducts JEE Advance (Advanced Joint Entrance Examination) for the admission in B.Tech programme.
IITs and IISc both in cooperation, conducts GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) for the admission in M.Tech and PhD programmes.
