What is the full form of NTPC?

NTPC is an abbreviation of National Thermal Power Corporation. It is an Indian public sector business corporation in India. Its head office is situated in New Delhi. It was established to pick up the pace and increase the rate of power generation in the country. NTPC's fundamental business is to generate and trade electricity to publicly-owned power distribution corporations and State Electricity Boards in India. It is a corporation included under the Companies Act 1956 and is supported and encouraged by the Government of India.
In the present time, it is the leading thermal power generating company of India in terms of installed capacity and output. As of 31 March 2015, the company had 24,067 employees. NTPC is also ranked in the list on National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Except for generating power, it is also dynamically engaged in coal mining, power trading, equipment manufacturing, renewable energy, and power distribution, etc. It also offers consultancy facilities associated with power plant construction or power generation and take on and commence turnkey projects for domestic and global clients.
NTPC Brief History
- On 7 November 1975, it was integrated as a power generating company.
- On 19 March 1976, Shri. D.V Kapur turned out to be the first Chairman & Managing Director of NTPC.
- On 8 December 1976, the first project of NTPC was cleared by the government, thermal power project at Singrauli in Uttar Pradesh.
- In 1997, It was bestowed by the category of Navratna company.
- In 2004, it turned out to be a listed company.
- In 2005, it was renamed 'NTPC Limited'.
- In 2006, it signed a contract with Sri Lanka to establish two units of 250 MW each at Trincomalee in Sri Lanka.
- In May 2010, it turned out to be a Maharatna company.
- Between the years, 2008 and 2011, it came into combined business enterprise with a variety of highly regarded companies like BHEL, NHPC, Bharat Forge, Coal India, SAIL and NMDC.
NTPC Awards
NTPC has been awarded incessantly as substantial places to work:
- NTPC was ranked 2nd among the 250 largest power producers and energy traders in the world by Platts in 2015. On taken as a whole basis NTPC ranked 56th amongst Platts 250 companies.
- In 2009, it acknowledged the ICSI National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance.
