ChatGPT was trained in multiple stages of a GPT architecture. In the first stage of language modelling, the ChatGPT model was pre-training using a large set of data from the internet. As the next step, the model was fine tuned for conversational tasks. Finally, the GPT model was reevaluated in iterative fashion on various criterias like response coherence, fluency and relevance.
