BITWISE OR (|) Operator Example in Golang

In this program, we will read two integer numbers and perform a BITWISE OR (|) operation, and print the result on the console screen.

Explanation

In the above program, we declare the package main. The main package is used to tell the Go language compiler that the package must be compiled and produced the executable file. Here, we imported the fmt package that includes the files of package fmt then we can use a function related to the fmt package.

Here, we created the main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program. In the main() function, we created three variables num1, num2, and res that are initialized with 0. Then we read the values of variables num1 and num2 from the user.  Here we performed a bitwise OR operation.

Now evaluate the above expression,

res = num1 | num2
res = 5 | 2

The binary equivalent of 5 is 101.

The binary equivalent of 2 is 010.

Then

101
010
====
111

That is 7.

At last, we printed the value of variable res on the console screen.
