Scala – Printing Current Time

Here, we will get the current hour, minute, second using Calander class and print the current time on the console screen.

Scala code to print the current time

The source code to print the current time is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to print current time

import java.util.Calendar;

object Sample {
  def main(args: Array[String]) {
    val now = Calendar.getInstance()

    val hh = now.get(Calendar.HOUR)
    val mm = now.get(Calendar.MINUTE)
    val ss = now.get(Calendar.SECOND)

    printf("Current Time: %02d:%02d:%02d\n", hh, mm, ss);
  }
}

Output

Current Time: 08:35:10

Explanation

In the above program, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. And, we imported the Calendar class using the below statement.

import java.util.Calendar;

Then we created a singleton object Sample and defined the main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we get the instance of Calendar class using Calendar.getInstance() method. Then we get HOUR, MINUTE, SECOND using the get() method. After that, we printed the current time on the console screen.
