Here, we are going to learn how to create a hash set in Scala programming language?

Scala - Create a Hash Set

Here, we will create a set of integer numbers using the HashSet collection class. Then we will print elements of the hash set on the console screen.

The HashSet is a sealed class. It is implemented by extending immutable Set trait and Abstract Set. The hash code is used to store items. The HashSet does not maintain insertion order and it does not sort the elements.

Scala code to create a hash set

The source code to create a hash set is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to create a hash set

import scala.collection.immutable._

object Sample {
  // Main method
  def main(args: Array[String]) {
    var nums: HashSet[Int] = HashSet(87, 70, 60, 30, 20, 50, 40, 10);

    println("Elements of hash set:");
    nums.foreach((item: Int) => printf("%d ", item));

    println();
  }
}

Output

Elements of hash set:
10 20 60 70 50 87 40 30

Explanation

Here, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. And, we imported Collection classes using below statement,

import scala.collection.immutable._

Here, we also created a singleton object Sample and defined the main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we created a set nums using the HashSet collection. Then we printed the elements of the hash set using the foreach loop on the console screen.
