Scala – Extracting Substring

Here, we will extract a substring from a string using the substring() function and print the extracted substring on the console screen.

Scala code to extract the substring from a string

The source code to extract the substring from a string is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to extract substring
// from a string

object Sample {
  def main(args: Array[String]) {
    var str = "String example at includehelp.com";
    var subStr = "";

    subStr = str.substring(18, 29);

    printf("substring: '%s'\n", subStr);
  }
}

Output

substring: 'includehelp'

Explanation

In the above program, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. And, we created an object Sample. Here, we defined main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we created two string variables str, subStr2, that are initialized with "String example at includehelp.com", "" respectively. Then we extracted the substring by specifying the index. After that, we printed the extracted substring on the console screen.
