DDOS: Distributed Denial of Service

DDOS is an abbreviation of "Distributed Denial of Service". It is unauthorized access by an attacker or hacker, which put an attempt by overloading the systems of users through the process of making available disorderly interrupting services from multiple sources over the network, which connects users system to the internet. The purpose of the hacker is to put a stop to the ongoing admissible process on the systems of users by interrupting through services. These types of attacks mostly occur on intended sites or services, which are hosted on sophisticated web servers for example banks or credit card payment gateways.

DDOS History

  • In the first week of September, 1996, Panix, the third-oldest ISP in the world was subjected to a SYN flood attack, the first DOS attack, which taken down the functioning of its services for quite a lot of days. Dealers of hardware, particularly Cisco, at the same time found a solution, which was designed basically in favor of the suitable security and protection of ISP's.
  • On March 5, 2018, an unidentified anonymous end user of the Arbor Networks, a US-based software corporation, came under the attack of hacker's, which turned out to be the biggest DDoS attack in record, touching the highest point of about 1.7 terabits per second.
