BigDecimal Class max() method

  • max() method is available in java.math package.
  • max() method is used to return the greatest value of (this BigDecimal) and the given (BigDecimal ob).
  • max() method is a non-static method, it is accessible with the class object only and if we try to access the method with the class name then we will get an error.
  • The return type of this method is "BigDecimal", it returns an object of "BigDecimal" type.
  • max() method does not throw an exception at the time of returning the maximum value.

Syntax:

    public BigDecimal max(BigDecimal ob);

Parameter(s):

  • BigDecimal ob – represents the object with which the greatest is to be calculated when compare to this BigDecimal.

Return value:

The return type of this method is BigDecimal, it retrieves the BigDecimal whose value are larger in any of the (this BigDecimal) and the given (BigDecimal ob).

Example:

// Java program to demonstrate the example
// of BigDecimal max(BigDecimal ob) method of BigDecimal

import java.math.*;
public class MaxOfBD {
    public static void main(String args[]) {

        // Initialize two variables first is
        // of "int" and second is of "String"
        // type
        int val = 120;
        String str = "100";

        // Initialize two BigDecimal objects
        BigDecimal b_dec1 = new BigDecimal(val);
        BigDecimal b_dec2 = new BigDecimal(str);

        // By using max() method - is to return
        // the BigDecimal that holds the maximum
        // value in both of the compared object
        // i.e. 120.max(100) it returns 120
        BigDecimal max_val = b_dec1.max(b_dec2);
        System.out.println("b_dec1.max(b_dec2): " + max_val);
    }
}

Output

b_dec1.max(b_dec2): 120
