Creating an empty file in Golang

Problem Solution:

In this program, we will create an empty text file using os.Create() function.

Program/Source Code:

The source code to create an empty file is given below. The given program is compiled and executed successfully.

Golang code to create an empty file

// Golang program to create an empty file

package main

import "os"
import "fmt"

func main() {
	empFile, err := os.Create("test.txt")
	if err != nil {
		fmt.Println("Unable to create file")
	} else {
		fmt.Println("File creation done")
	}
	empFile.Close()
}

Output:

File creation done

Explanation:

In the above program, we declare the package main. The main package is used to tell the Go language compiler that the package must be compiled and produced the executable file. Here, we imported the fmt, os packages then we can use a function related to the fmt and os package.

In the main() function, we created an empty text file "test.txt" using os.Create() function. The os.Create() function returns file pointer and error. If the error value is not "nil" then we printed the message "Unable to create file" otherwise we printed the "File creation done" message on the console screen.
