DCC: Direct Client-to-Client

DCC is an abbreviation of "Direct Client-to-Client protocol". It is an IRC based sub-protocol, which allows a peer-to-peer (P2P) distributed application architecture network to establish an organized interrelated connection by making use of an IRC server in case of a specific process of cooperation computed with the coded commands in an ordering to switch over and substitute files or carry out non-relayed chats.
Secure Direct Client-to-Client (SDCC) is a modified alternative of the DCC protocol, also known as DCC SCHAT, which keeps up connections that are encrypted.

History

  • The first IRC client was ircII, a free, open-source Unix IRC and ICB client, through which DCC protocols were first time put down into service.
  • In 1991, the DCC protocols were discharged into functioning by Troy Rollo for version 2.1.2.

Introduction of DCC Connections

The introduction of DCC connections can be happen in two different manners, which comprise:

  • The first and highly widespread approach to introduce a DCC connection is by using the CTCP communication, in which the CTCP protocol is sent by one user to the other user through the IRC network.
  • The second approach or manner to introduce a DCC connection is in favor of the client to make a connection straightforwardly to the DCC server through which not a single interchange will pass on all the components of the IRC network.

Widespread DCC applications

  • DCC SEND
  • DCC Whiteboard
  • DCC XMIT
  • DCC Server
