CDP: Certificate in Date Processing

CDP is an abbreviation of a Certificate in Data Processing. It was initiated and emerged between 1960 to 1962, under the administration of the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA).

History

  • Between 1960 to 1962, the CDP certification exam was initiated and emerged under the administration of the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA), which was started after the National Machine Accountants Association examination but before the present up to date Association of Information Technology Professionals examination.
  • In 1974, the exam administration and control came under the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP), which was established by industry associations and groups of nine specific constituents.
  • By the mid-1980s, the majority sections of the hardware, Operating system, and programming, which were in the beginning mostly IBM-oriented, incorporated DEC, UNIX, and other operating systems, vendors, or standards as a reference.
  • Afterward, the name of the examination credential was changed to Certified Computing Professional (CCP) by the ICCP and the allotment process of the latest credentials was done by the present CDP holders.
  • ICCP included necessities of long-term education for re-certification, which was not a section of the original CDP certification.
  • At present, CCP examinations and re-certifications carry on under the management and control of the ICCP.

Examination Criterion

  • The criterion of the examination was that it examines every candidate's understanding, knowledge, and experience with hardware, telecommunication, systems, programming, operating systems, and additional fields of data processing.
  • If any candidate gets failed in any particular section, then that candidate required only to retake and qualify that particular section to complete the certification.
  • The requirements of the CDP were numerous years of experience in the field of information technology, the reference given by an existing CDP holder, and the candidate must be completed and qualified for all the 6 sections of the written examination.
  • The candidates who score maximum marks in each of the five sections of the examination receive the "Awards for Excellence" certificate and a CDP key.
